North Korea's top diplomat Choe Son-hui met with visiting Russian Deputy Foreign Minister in Pyongyang, amid talks for a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war, state media reported Sunday,

Choe met with Andrey Rudenko on Saturday, a day after he arrived in Pyongyang, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

The talks were also attended by the North Korean Foreign Ministry officials and Russian Ambassador to North Korea Aleksandr Matsegora.

No further details of the talks were provided.

Rudenko's visit to Pyongyang, however, appears to be part of follow-up efforts for last year's treaty, which calls for mutual assistance if either country is attacked, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported.

It also comes after Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the US last week.

The two officials served as the government representatives for the treaty's ratification.

Rudenko also held separate talks with his North Korean counterpart, Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jong-gyu, on Saturday, and they reached a consensus on practical measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation in line with their comprehensive strategic partnership treaty signed last June, according to the KCNA.

North Korea is believed to have dispatched more than 10,000 troops to Russia's western front-line region of Kursk, according to Yonhap News.

- 'US increasing uncertainties for a nuclear war'

Accusing Washington of increasing uncertainties for a nuclear war, North Korea's state media warned Sunday any US military reinforcements in the event of a war will be "wiped out."

The warning comes amid Washington's additional deployment of stealth fighter jets to Japan earlier this month.

A commentary carried by the KCNA criticized the recent deployment of a squadron of F-35B fighters to an air base in Iwakuni, Japan, saying: "The US desperate moves of military adventurism ... provide the DPRK with reasonable justification and the urgent need to give tougher warning of action."

DPRK stands for the North's official name -- the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

"Any war reinforcements of the US will be completely contained and wiped out," it added.
