ISTANBUL

Ukraine on Thursday claimed responsibility for two drone attacks carried out on oil depots in Russia’s Kirov and Rostov regions.

A statement by Ukraine’s General Staff said that its forces attacked the Atlas oil depot in the Rostov region, due to which a fire broke out on the territory of the facility’s vertical tanks.

The statement said the Ukrainian side is aware of the involvement of firefighters to eliminate the fire at the oil depot.

It further said that the attack was carried out by troops from Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence and the Special Operations Forces.

It also said that an attack was carried out at the Zenit oil depot in the Kirov region, adding that detailed information on the damage inflicted is currently being determined.

The statement went on to say that a field artillery depot of the Russian military in the Voronezh region was also hit during the attack.

It added that Ukraine’s Defense Forces continue to take all measures to undermine Russia’s military and economic potential, as well as stop the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

The Atlas oil depot is situated in Rostov’s border district of Kamensky, adjacent to Ukraine’s eastern Luhansk region.

Meanwhile, the town of Kotelnich hosting the Zenit oil depot is located about 700 kilometers (435 miles) east of the Russian capital Moscow, and about 1,100 kilometers (683 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

On Wednesday, local authorities in Rostov and Kirov reported no casualties as fires erupted at oil depots following Ukrainian drone attacks.
