The Russian Investigative Committee said Thursday that two Ukrainian helicopters violated Russia's air space and conducted airstrikes on residential buildings in the Bryansk region that borders Ukraine.

Seven people were reported injured, including a baby who was born in 2020 in the Klimovo settlement and a criminal case was opened, according to the Committee.

"Using two combat helicopters, equipped with heavy offensive weapons, servicemen of Ukraine's armed forces illegally invaded the airspace of the Russian Federation. Moving at low altitude, acting intentionally, they carried out at least six airstrikes on residential buildings in the village of Klimovo in the Klimovsky district of the Bryansk region," it said.

The Governor of the Bryansk region Alexandr Bogomaz in a separate statement said that two houses were damaged in the strikes and he confirmed that seven residents were injured with two being hospitalized in serious condition.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov warned Wednesday that if Ukraine continues to strike at Russian bordering areas, Moscow will resume strikes on Kyiv.

"If such cases continue, the armed forces of the Russian Federation will strike at decision-making centers, including in Kyiv, from which the Russian army has so far refrained," he said.

At least 1,932 civilians have been killed and 2,589 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, according to UN estimates, with the true figure feared to be much higher.

More than 4.6 million Ukrainians have fled to other countries since the beginning of the war that started Feb. 24, with over 7 million more internally displaced, said the UN refugee agency.
