Russia claimed Sunday that it had thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack on an airbase northeast of Moscow, local media said.

"The FSB, acting together with the Russian Interior Ministry, thwarted an attempt to carry out an act of sabotage, masterminded by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, against Severny airfield in the Ivanovo region, which was supposed to involve drones filled with explosives," the Federal Security Service (FSB) told Russian state news agency TASS.

According to the report, the alleged strike was supposed to target A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft, while a group "supervised by Ukrainian security officers" was exposed by FSB authorities.

"The group's members planned to use an Aeroprakt A-32 light aircraft to deliver improvised explosive devices from the Blystova settlement in Ukraine's Chernihiv region," the FSB claimed.

The report noted that the FSB said a search is underway for all members of the group and that their activities are being documented.

Ukraine, which continues to fight off Russia's 14-month war against its territory, has yet to respond to the allegations concerning the suspected drone attack, which follows accusations last week of a drone attack on the Kremlin, in an attempt to assassinate President Vladimir Putin, plus attacks on Russian journalists.
