Greece initiates probe into data leak from WhatsApp by Israeli spyware
Data Protection Authority also announces investigation into DeepSeek

ATHENS
Greece initiated an investigation into a data leak from WhatsApp by an Israeli spyware, local media reported on Thursday.
The country’s Data Protection Authority announced that it is investigating the case concerning the breach of personal data of WhatsApp users, including subscribers in Greece, by Israeli company Paragan Solutions’ malicious software, according to the daily Kathimerini.
The authority also revealed that it has started an investigation into the legality of the Chinese AI DeepSeek application under data protection regulations.
Earlier this week, Homo Digitalis, a Greek NGO concerned with internet users’ rights, asked regulatory authorities to temporarily suspend the application’s distribution and use until it provides satisfactory answers about the fate of users’ private data.
This week, Australia, South Korea, and the Netherlands banned civil servants from using DeepSeek amid allegations that it stores personal information to share with the Chinese state authorities.
