Italian defender Matteo Gabbia scored a late header as AC Milan beat Inter Milan 2-1 in a Sunday derby in the Italian football league.

US winger Christian Pulisic drew first blood in the Milan derby as the 26-year-old gave AC Milan a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute at Inter's Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.

Pulisic, a player known for his pace and ball control skills, dribbled past many Inter players before scoring the opening goal.

Inter left-back Federico Dimarco scored to level the match in the 27th minute.

Gabbia scored the winning goal for Milan in the 89th minute after his Dutch teammate Tijjani Reijnders delivered a free kick into the area.

Milan, which bagged three points, ended their derby drought against Inter. Defending Italian champions Inter beat Milan in the previous six consecutive matches in all competitions.

It is now Milan's first derby win against Inter since 2022.

Paulo Fonseca's men increased their points to eight to be in seventh position. Milan have joined Inter, which also have eight points in the league.

Torino are surprisingly leading the Italian top-tier football division Serie A with 11 points in five matches. Napoli have 10 points to be after Torino.
