THE HAGUE

Ajax have won the Dutch Eredivisie title for the 33rd time in their history, despite receiving a 1-1 draw against Heracles Almelo with a game to spare.

The Amsterdam giants, who are four points ahead of their closest rivals Feyenoord in the standings, have managed to win the Dutch highest division four times in a row under the tutelage of their 43-year-old Dutch coach Frank de Boer.

Ajax kept their leading position in Eredivisie by showing good performance, especially in the second half of the league, winning 20 matches out of 33 with 9 draws. They were beaten only 3 times.

Jubilant after the final whistle on Sunday, Ajax fans went on cheering their team, with celebrations expected to continue on the streets of Amsterdam.

Crowned as the champions of this season's Eredivisie, Ajax will directly qualify for the UEFA Champions League's next season.

In 123 seasons, Ajax have won the Dutch Eredivisie the most times with 33 titles.

The Amsterdam giants are followed by PSV Eindhoven, which has won the title 21 times and Feyenoord come in third on the list with 14 titles.
