Australian basketball star Andrew Bogut on Tuesday announced his retirement after 15 years in the game.

“The decision hasn’t been an easy one, but I think it is the right decision. The decision that I made and where I will be signing for next season is absolutely nowhere. I will be retiring from professional basketball, effective immediately," Bogut said on his podcast, according to a report on the NBA website.

He said his body “was hanging by a thread” from 2018 onwards and that playing on was “just not worth it at this point in my career.”

Bogut played for five NBA teams – Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Lakers – over the course of his career.

He was Milwaukee’s No. 1 draft pick in 2005 and won the NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2015.

The 36-year-old averaged 9.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 706 games.
