English sixth-tier league club Maidstone United shocked Ipswich Town 2-1 on Saturday to take a sensational win in the FA Cup knockouts.
Ipswich, who are now in the second spot in England's second-tier Championship division and fighting for promotion to the Premier League, were expecting a home victory in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
But Maidstone drew the first blood near the end of the first half when Lamar Reynolds chipped over the goalkeeper on a counter attack to score the opening goal, which was their first attempt on goal.
Ipswich midfielder Jeremy Sarmiento scored the equalizer in the 56th minute with a low shot in the area.
Maidstone scored another counter-attack goal in the 66th minute as Sam Corne assisted by Reynolds finished in the box, 2-1.
Then Ipswich piled on the pressure as they were looking for an equalizer.
But Maidstone, who scored twice from two shots at Ipswich, defended their goal well to seal a historic win.
Ipswich, who were the favorites of this match and had 79% possession of the ball, took 38 shots but scored only one goal during the whole game. They were eliminated from the tournament.
Maidstone, competing in the National League South, qualified for the FA Cup's fifth round, where there will be 16 teams including defending champions Manchester City.
In addition to Maidstone, Premier League clubs Manchester City, Bournemouth, Luton Town, and Brighton & Hove Albion, and Championship leaders Leicester City have reached the last 16.
With 14 wins, Arsenal are the FA Cup's record holders.
