Euro 2016: Griezmann carries France to final

After beating Germany 2-0 in semifinal, France will meet Portugal in Euro 2016 final on Sunday

France are set to play against Portugal in the Euro 2016 final after they toppled rivals Germany 2-0 in a semifinal clash at Stade Velodrome in Marseille late Thursday.

The tournament hosts were awarded a penalty kick near the end of the first half as German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger handballed in the penalty box.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann converted the penalty successfully, 1-0, giving France the lead.

France doubled the score in the 72nd minute, 2-0.

French star Paul Pogba crossed from the left, and German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer parried the ball, but Griezmann followed the rebound and put the ball into Germany’s net. This goal secured the victory for France.

Griezmann shone in the match, as his goals for France carried his team to the final.

Having lost the match to the hosts, Germany have been eliminated from the tournament.

Match victors France will meet Portugal in the Euro 2016 final to be played on Sunday, July 10 at Stade de France in Saint-Denis.
