Manchester City beat Liverpool on penalties to win 2019 FA Community Shield in Wembley
ANKARA
Manchester City claimed the 2019 FA Community Shield, beating Liverpool 5-4 on penalties in Sunday's final.
Manchester City's English star Raheem Sterling scored the opener in the 12th minute in London's Wembley Stadium.
But Liverpool's Cameroonian defender Joel Matip scored the equalizer by a header in the 77th minute.
The regular time ended 1-1 so the penalties had to decide the winner.
While City scored a perfect set of penalties, Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum missed his penalty, eventually depriving Reds of the title.
Manchester City won the penalty shootout 5-4 to earn this year's Community Shield.
City previously won this title in 1937, 1968, 1972, 2012 and 2018.
Manchester City's arch rivals Manchester United is the most successful team in Community Shield, winning the trophy 21 times in history.
