Two Spanish rivals, Real Madrid and Sevilla FC, square off Tuesday's opener
ISTANBUL
The 2014 UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid will face the latest Europa League champions Sevilla FC in the UEFA Super Cup in the Welsh capital of Cardiff on Tuesday.
Each year, at the start of the football season, the Super Cup pits the winners of the previous Champions League against the victors of the less prestigious Europa League.
Spanish club Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League title by defeating Atletico Madrid 4-1 in the final last May. Meanwhile, Sevilla were crowned last season's UEFA Europa League winners after they beat Portugal's Benfica, 4-2 on penalties, in the final.
Real Madrid strengthened their squad by signing three players this summer: Colombian star James Rodriguez acquired from the club of Monaco, German midfielder Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich and Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas from Levante.
Real Madrid's Spanish central midfielder Xabi Alonso is suspended for the match.
After selling their Croatian star ,Ivan Rakitic to Barcelona, Sevilla added six players, including Spanish footballers Denis Suarez, and Aleix Vidal to their squad.
Kick-off at Cardiff City Stadium is at 18:45 GMT. The game will be called by English referee Mark Clattenburg.
