Galatasaray become 1st football club to announce signings on Twitter Spaces
Twitter's live chat room feature Istanbul club's new signings Torreira, Mertens, as 231,000 users join event

Türkiye's Galatasaray has become the first football club in the world that announced its signings during a live chat on Twitter Spaces.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Galatasaray confirmed that it announced the arrivals of Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira and Belgian forward Dries Mertens on Twitter Spaces, which was a first in the world.
The chat room featured Galatasaray duo Torreira and Mertens late Monday as 231,000 Twitter users, including fans, joined the 35-minute event hosted by the Istanbul club.
Torreira, 26, left the English Premier League club Arsenal to join Galatasaray.
In addition to Arsenal, Torreira had loan spells with Spain's Atletico Madrid and Italy's Fiorentina.
Separately, Torreira plays for his native Uruguay.
Mertens, 35, was a longtime Napoli player in 2013-2022.
The Belgian international played for the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven before Napoli.
