Global IT outage affects 'some of Paris 2024's IT services': Organizers

ANKARA

A major global IT outage has affected "some IT services" of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday, a week before the games' opening ceremony.

"The global technical issues affecting Microsoft software has affected some of Paris 2024’s IT services. At this point, the impacts are limited and concern in particular the delivery of uniforms and accreditations. Our teams have been fully mobilised to ensure the continuity of operations at optimum levels," the Paris 2024 statement read.

It said that the Summer Olympics' ticketing systems have been "unaffected."

"The operations around the preparation of venues is continuing normally, and work schedules are not at risk.

"The Torch Relay is continuing along its route as normal, with today’s stage taking place in the Val D'Oise," it added.

Val D'Oise is a department in the north of Paris.

Services worldwide, from airlines to banks, are reportedly facing disruptions due to a series of technical glitches on Microsoft based platforms.

Troy Hunt, a regional director at Microsoft, posted on X the issue is not a “Microsoft outage”, it’s a CrowdStrike issue impacting Microsoft PCs.

Microsoft has said on X that its services are seeing continuous improvements while it continues to take mitigation actions.

The Paris 2024 will be held between July 26 and Aug. 11.
