Tyrone Mings picks ball up in penalty area, concedes bizarre penalty at Jan Breydelstadion
ISTANBUL
Hans Vanaken's penalty goal gave Club Brugge a win Wednesday against Aston Villa in UEFA Champions League matchday four.
Club Brugge nor Aston Villa was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half at Jan Breydelstadion.
But that all changed in the 51st minute when Tyrone Mings picked up the ball with his hand inside his penalty area after goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez passed it to him with a goal kick. The unusual mistake resulted in a penalty kick for Club Brugge.
Vanaken converted the penalty kick a minute later to give the Belgian club a win.
In another Wednesday match, Shakhtar Donetsk defeated Young Boys 2-1 at Gelsenkirchen's Arena AufSchalke.
Oleksandr Zubkov and Georgiy Sudakov scored for Shakhtar while Kastriot Imeri produced a goal for Young Boys.
