Injured Lamine Yamal withdraws from Spain squad
17-year-old Barca star ruled out of upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Denmark, Switzerland
ISTANBUL
Barcelona striker Lamine Yamal has withdrawn from Spain's squad for the UEFA Nations League games, the Spanish Football Federation confirmed.
"Following the Spanish National Team’s medical team’s assessment of the injury report sent by FC Barcelona, Lamine Yamal has been ruled out due to injury for the upcoming matches against Denmark in Copenhagen (Friday 15) and Switzerland in Tenerife (Monday 18), both in the group stage of the Nations League," the federation said in a statement on Monday.
Girona FC winger Bryan Gil has been called up in his place, it added.
Barcelona said Yamal has a grade 1 syndesmosis injury in his right ankle and is expected to be out of action for between two and three weeks.
Lamal, 17, led Spain to win the EURO 2024 title in July.
