Inter Milan hire Mancini as new manager

ROME

Italian Serie A team Inter Milan appointed Roberto Mancini as their manager on Friday.

With the big hopes they had at the start of the season looking likely to be unfulfilled, Inter Milan have sacked Walter Mazzarri and brought in Roberto Mancini.

According to the Italian press, the Milanese club's Indonesian chairman, Erick Thohir, phoned Walter Mazzarri this morning and said that the club no longer want him to manage the team anymore.

It was also reported that Mancini's contract will last for two and a half years.

The newly appointed Mancini will manage the Italian side for the second time in his career.

The 49-year-old Italian head coach managed Inter Milan between the years 2004 and 2008 and during this period he led the club to three Italian Serie A titles.

Apart from their triumphs in the domestic league, they also won two Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups during the Mancini era.

Mancini managed Turkish side Galatasaray last season and led them to the Turkish Cup before leaving.

Slipping away from the top of the league, Inter Milan are sitting in ninth position as of the 11th week of Serie A, having collected only 16 points so far.

Juventus are currently top of the table with 28 points.

In contrast to their poor form in Serie A, Inter Milan are leading UEFA Europa League Group F with eight points from four matches and are undefeated in their group thus far.
