Juventus forward Federico Chiesa has suffered from a major knee injury, the Italian football club said on Monday.

"During yesterday's match, Federico Chiesa felt a blunt trauma sprain to his left knee. The diagnostic tests performed this morning at J|Medical revealed an injury of the anterior cruciate ligament," Juventus said in a statement.

Chiesa, 24, who generally plays on the right flank, will undergo knee surgery in a few days, the club added.

The Italian star was injured in a Sunday Italian Serie A match against Roma that Juventus won 4-3 at Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Chiesa scored four goals and made four assists in 18 matches for Juventus this season.

He won the UEFA EURO 2020 title with the Italian national team.

Separately Juventus said that the club's Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey tested positive for coronavirus.

Ramsey, 31, was placed in isolation.

This season Ramsey played five matches for Juventus.
