Kimberly Garcia breaks 35km race walk world record

ANKARA

Peruvian Kimberly Garcia broke the race walk world record Saturday in the Women's 35km Race Walking (20km-30km-50km) at the World Athletics Race Walking Tour Gold.

The double world champion marked the new record in 2 hours, 37 minutes and 44 seconds at the Dudinska 50, the first tour meeting of the year.

The previous record was held by Russian Klavdiya Afanasyeva in 2:38:24.

China’s Liu Hong finished second in 2:40:06, while Magaly Bonilla from Ecuador placed third in 2:46:32.

Garcia has two gold medals in the 20km and 35km walks at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
