Orhan Okulu triumphs in Kirkpinar oil wrestling
Okulu wins golden belt by beating his rival Osman Aynur in the 53rd minute
EDIRNE, Turkey
Orhan Okulu has won the coveted golden belt at the historical 654th Kirkpinar oil wrestling festival in Edirne on Sunday.
Okulu became champion by beating his rival Osman Aynur in the 53rd minute. Okulu had defeated last year's champion Fatih Atli to set up the final against Aynur.
Minister of Health Mehmet Muezzinoglu, Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Cagatay Kilic, Mayor of Edirne Recep Gurkan and the President of Turkey's Wrestling Association Musa Aydin were among the spectators of the final competition.
The annual tournament, which started Friday in Edirne province neighboring Greece, is the oldest sanctioned sporting competition in the world, held in the same province since 1362.
