Real Madrid's Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde has tested positive for the coronavirus, the Spanish football club said on Wednesday.

Valverde, 22, will miss this week's Spanish La Liga matches against Cadiz on Wednesday and Real Betis on Saturday.

He is very likely to be ineligible for the UEFA Champions League semifinal first leg against Chelsea on Tuesday.

Valverde – a Real Madrid player since 2018 – won the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup and La Liga title last season.

He scored three goals in 28 appearances this season.
