Tottenham Hotspur's South Korean star Son Heung-min on Saturday made history as the first Asian football player to score 100 goals in the English Premier League.

"Heung-Min Son becomes the first ever Asian player to score 100 goals in the Premier League. Congrats, Sonny," Tottenham Hotspur said on Twitter to honor their forward.

Son, a Spurs regular since 2015, scored his 100th league goal against Brighton & Hove Albion in the first half at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he curled outside the area to get past Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele.

Before joining the English club, the 30-year-old South Korean international had played for German clubs Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Brighton 2-1, with the Spurs' English forward Harry Kane scoring the winning goal in the 79th minute.

The fifth-place Spurs have 53 points in 30 matches to chase both Manchester United and Newcastle United, who are currently above it with 56 points each.

Following the loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton are seventh with 46 points.

In normal circumstances, the top four clubs in the Premier League will clinch berths for next season's UEFA Champions League groups once the 2022-23 Premier League season ends in May after matchday 38.

Arsenal are the leaders with 72 points in 29 games, followed by Manchester City with 64.
