Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar powered to victory Thursday in stage 6 of the Tour de France.

The 23-year-old rider for the UAE Emirates team finished the 220-kilometer (136-mile) stage in 4 hours, 27 minutes and 13 seconds.

The 2020 and 2021 Tour de France winner captured the yellow jersey and is currently leading the general ranking in 20 hours, 44 minutes and 44 seconds.

Australian rider Michael Matthews of BikeExchange-Jayco was second and Groupama–FDJ team's Frenchman David Gaudu finished third.

Stage seven, a 176.5-km (109-mile) ride, will be held Friday from Tomblaine to La Super Planche des Belles Filles.

The 2022 event includes 21 stages and will end on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris on July 24.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
