The Spanish football leagues – top-tier La Liga EA SPORTS and second-tier La Liga HYPERMOTION – will observe a minute of silence this weekend to commemorate those killed by floods in Valencia, the organizers said on Wednesday.

In a statement, La Liga expressed its condolences and solidarity with the families of the flood victims and the missing ones.

Catastrophic flooding in Spain’s eastern Valencia region has left 63 people dead, according to provisional data from the country’s Interior Ministry.

The latest death toll came after an excruciating night of devastating flash floods, caused by the worst storm of the century, comparable only to two others in the 1980s, according to Spain’s meteorological agency.

Meanwhile, Valencia football club, one of the notable teams in the top-tier La Liga division, said that it turned its home stadium Mestalla into a "food deposit and basic necessities" to help people who were affected by the disaster.

On Saturday, Valencia will play a league match against defending Spanish champions Real Madrid at Mestalla.
