Tennis: Turkey's Ilkel moves to Australian Open 2nd QR

ISTANBUL

Turkish tennis player Cem Ilkel on Monday advanced to the Australian Open second qualifying round in men's singles.

Turkish world no. 219 Ilkel eliminated Peter Gojowczyk from Germany with 6-2 and 6-3 sets in Doha, Qatar, the pandemic venue.

Following his victory, in the next stage on Wednesday the 25-year-old will face French player Quentin Halys.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the men's qualifying round is being played at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha, with the women's qualifying in Dubai's Duty Free Tennis Stadium.
