World's number one female tennis player Serena Williams was defeated by her French opponent Alize Cornet 2-1 in the third round of Wimbledon Tennis Tournament on Saturday.
The 32-year-old U.S. athlete won the first set 6-1, but the second set saw 24-year-old Cornet breaking Williams' serves twice and equalising after winning 6-3.
Cornet, who ranks 25th in standings, managed to win the contentious third set 6-4 by breaking Williams' serves twice out of nine, qualifying for the fourth round for the first time in her career.
