Canadian football side Toronto FC announced on Saturday that Italian international winger Lorenzo Insigne signed a pre-contract to join the club.

Insigne signed with the in Major League Soccer (MLS) club on a four-year deal to begin this July.

The Canadian club's president, Bill Manning, said this was a historic deal and exciting day for the club. "Lorenzo is a world class attacking player in the prime of his career. He was a European champion with Italy and has performed on the biggest stages during his club career with Napoli."

Toronto FC head coach Bob Bradley also expressed his excitement, saying: "We are all looking forward to having Lorenzo join us this summer."

Insigne, 30, produced 114 goals and 91 assists in 416 games for Serie A club Napoli, so far.

He also bagged the UEFA EURO 2020 title with Italy.
