Real Madrid's Brazilian football star Vinicius Junior scored double as the Spanish powerhouse earned a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League semifinal opener.

Following a killer through ball sent by Toni Kroos, Vinicius Junior scored the opener for Real Madrid in the 24th minute at Munich's Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane scored a solo-effort goal in the box to level in the early minutes of the second half.

Then Bayern Munich were awarded a penalty after midfielder Jamal Musiala was brought down in the area. In the 57th minute, English star Harry Kane scored from the white spot to put the German team ahead.

However, Real Madrid returned home with a 2-2 draw after their forward Vinicius Junior converted the penalty successfully in the 83rd minute.

Real Madrid were unbeaten in their last eight Champions League matches against Bayern Munich, with six wins and two draws.

The sides do not meet every season, but Bayern Munich last beat Real Madrid in the 2011-12 Champions League semifinal first leg.

Following the 2-2 draw in Munich, the teams will travel to Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu Stadium for the second leg on May 8.

On Wednesday, Germany's Borussia Dortmund will host French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the other semifinal tie.
