Italy sits atop the list of medal-winning countries with 27 gold, 27 silver and 22 bronze, while Turkey ranks second with 15 golds, 16 silver and 15 bronze as the fourth day events continue at 2013 Mediterranean Games on Monday.

Lucija Polavder of Slovenia defeated her Tunisian opponent Nihel Chikhrouhou at women's +78kg Judo and won the gold medal on Sunday.

Turkey's Belkis Zehra Kaya won the bronze toppling her Spanish opponent Sara Alvarez Folgueiras. 

Larisa Ceric of Bosnia-Herzegovina claimed the other bronze medal.  

In women's 78kg French Geraldine Mentouopou won the gold medal and Italy's Assunta Galeone won the silver as Lebanon's Marie Aad Greece' Vasiliki Lymperopoulou won bronze medals. 

 

Turkish athletes won two gold medals in Greco-Roman wrestling style on Sunday.

Emrah Kus defeated Croatian Neven Zagaj 2-0 in 74kg final event and won the gold medal. 

The bronze medals went to Tunisian Tarek Mohamed and French Steeve Guenot.

The winner of the second gold medal was Mevlut Arik, defeating his French opponent Tarik Belmandi when he made a no show due to his injury.

Algerian Mouatez Djedaiet and Serbian Kristijan Fris won the bronze medals at 60kg Greco-Roman wrestling.

In men's 96kg Greco-Roman, Turkish wrestler Cenk Ildem won the silver medal losing out to his French rival Melonin Noumonvi 0-2. 

Egypt's Ahmed Saad and Italy's won Daigoro Timoncini the silver medals.

 

Tukey's Sibel Simsek won gold in women's 63kg weightlifting with her 100kg in snatch at the 17th Mediterranean Games on Sunday while she claimed the silver with 121kg in clean and jerk. 

Simsek was followed by Albanian Romela Begaj with 99kg in snatch and Egyptian Sara Ahmed with bronze at 92kg.

In clean and jerk, Egypt's Sara Ahmet claimed the gold medal with 124kg while Albanian Romela Begaj got the bronze medal at 117kg. 

 

 Italy's Vanessa Ferrari clinched the gold medal with 56.198 points on Sunday's artistic gymnastics at 17th Mediterranean Games.

Turkey's Demet Mutlu ranked the seventh with 48.732 points while Sema Fidel Aslan came in 11th with 45.065. 

Women's individual final contests were held in 4 fields including asymmetric bars, balance beam, floor exercise and vault. 

Spanish Maria Paula won the silver with 55.032 in the events while French Valentine Sabatou got the bronze. 

 

Turkey's Olympic champion Servet Tazegul won the bronze medal on Sunday in men's  68 kg Taekwondo.

Spanish world champion Daniel Quesada Barrera defeated Tazegul 12-7 in 17th Mediterranean Games, where judges deducted Tazegul's 10 points due to objections from the Spanish side.

Turkish athlete Yaprak Eris in women's +67 kg won the bronze medal after a 6-2 defeat at the hands of her Serbian rival Milica Mandic.

Serbian Milica Mandic and French Maeva Mellier in women's +67 kg, Spanish Daniel Quesada Barrera and Italian Claudio Treviso in men's 68 kg advanced to final.

 

Tunisian Ramzi Bahloul won the gold medal on Sunday lifting 157 kg to break a Games record previously held by Albania's Erkand Qerimaj with 156kg.

Turkey's Semih Yagci won silver with 151kg followed by Egyptian Mohamed Sultan with 150kg.

In clean and jerk, Ibrahim Abdelbaki of Egypt claimed the gold medal with 195kg while Tunisian Ramzi Bahloul got the silver and Egyptian Mohamed Sultan got the bronze medal.

Tunisia's Ramzi Bahloul broke another Games record with his 195kg in clean and jerk.

 

World and European champion Riza Kayaalp of Turkey won the gold medal at men's 120 kg by beating his opponent Radhwen Chebbi of Tunisia 2-0.

Italian Rocco Ficara and Egyptian Mohamed Mohamed received bronze medals after repechage matches.

Another world and European champion Selcuk Cebi from Turkey bested French Samba Diong 2-0 at men's 84 kg.

Tunisian Haikel Achouri and Croatian Nenad Zugaj received bronze medals following repechage matches.

Atakan Yuksel triumphed at 66 kg, winning 2-0 against Serbia's Aleksandar Maksimovic. Dominik Etlinger of Croatia and French Artak Margaryan won bronze.

Meanwhile in men's 55 kg wrestling, Egyptian wrestler Haithem Mahmoud beat Fatih Ucuncu of Turkey 2-1. Italian Federico Manea and Moroccan Fouad Fajari received bronze.

 

Turkey's Aylin Dasdelen broke Games record with a 113 kg lift in women's 58 kg clean&jerk event.

Egypt's Esra Ahmed got the silver medal with 101 kg, while Tunisian Nadia Hosni ranked third with 100.

The order did not change in the snatch event, with Dasdelen winning gold with 87 kg, followed by Ahmed with 86 and Hosni with 78.

 

Burcu Dolunay of Turkey came third in women's 50 meters freestyle competition on Saturday.

Dolunay finished the event in 25.42 to win the bronze medal after Italy's Silvia di Pietro who won the silver.

French swimmer Anna Santamans clinched the title in 25.03.

- Men's 4x100 Relay

In men's 4x100 relay, the Turkish team won the silver medal with 3.18.79 after their Italian rivals who claimed the title with 3.15.99. Greece placed third with 3.19.09.

- Women's 100m Butterfly

Italy's Ilaria Bianchi claimed the title with 58.63 setting set a Games record women's 100m butterfly followed by compatriot Elena Di Liddo with 58.63 and French Beryl Gastaldello with 1.00.32.

Turkey's Gizem Bozkurt and Iris Rosenberger came fifth and seventh, respectively.

- Men's 100m butterfly 

In men's 100 meters butterfly, Serbia's Ivan Lendjer scored 52.30 to win the gold medal. Italy's Matteo Rivolta came second with 53.04 and his fellow countryman Piero Codia placed third with 53.18.

- Women's 200m butterfly

Turkey's Halime Zulal Zeren won the bronze medal with 2.14.93 in women's 200 meters butterfly after Italian Ambra Esposito's 2.12.21 that earned her a gold. Italy's Margherita Panziera won the silver medal.

 

Moroccan Issam Chernoubi won the gold medal defeating his Tunisian rival Oussama Oueslati in men's 80kg taekwondo on Saturday.

Chernoubi defeated Oueslati 6-1 in the games.

Turkish athlete Yunus Sari lost out 3-2 to Chernoubi and won the bronze medal. Nicolas Garcia Hemme of Spain won the other bronze. 

 

 Spain's Jose Luis Jimenez Mendez upset France's Flavien Furet Saturday in men's 58kg Taekwondo.

The Spaniard led his French rival 9-6.

Turkey's Firat Pozan in the same category won the bronze medal together with Italian Marcello Porcaro.

 

Turkey's Nur Tatar won the gold medal in women's 67kg taekwondo on Saturday.

Tatar defeated her Moroccan rival Hakema Al Maslahy 10-4.  

Egypt's Hadeya Wahba and France's Haby Niare won the bronze medals.

 

Turkish weightlifters Emine Sensoy and Aysegul Coban dominated the women's 53 kg weightlifting competition at Mersin Mediterranean Games, winning two gold and two silver medals with their dazzling performance in both snatch and clean & jerk events.

Sensoy won the snatch with 82 kg, followed by Coban, who also lifted 82 but did it on her last attempt. French Manon Lorentz, considered the favorite, settled for the bronze with 79.

In clean & jerk, Coban was the superior athlete, breaking a Games record with her 110 kg lift. Sensoy trailed with 96, and Lorrentz came third with 95.

The previous record in clean & jerk belonged to another Turkish weightlifter, Nurcan Taylan.

Meanwhile in men's weightlifting, Albanian lifter Daniel Godelli won both snatch and clean & jerk events by lifting 151 and 174 kg, respectively.

Godelli was chased in both events by Tunisian Karem Ben Hnia, who grabbed two silvers with 138 kg in snatch and 173 in clean & jerk.

Brikan Calja brought Albania its third and fourth medals in weightlifting by winning bronze in both lifts.

 

Turkey's Ahmet Sahin Kaba won the silver medal in men's Judo on Friday.

Competing in men's 60 kg, Morocco's Yassine Moudatir defeated Turkish judoist Kaba and claimed the gold medal.

Kaba of Turkey won the silver on the first day of the competitions at Mersin University Sports Hall.

Lebanese judoist Zlade Damien defeated Libyan Mohamed Elhadi Elkawisah, and Italian Fabio Basile defeated Algerian Lyes Saker and won the bronze medals.

- 66 kg

In men's 66 kg, Marcos Sugol Uriarte of Spain won the gold medal toppling his Slovenian rival Andraz Jereb.

Tunusia's Houcem Khalfaoui and Montenegro's Nikola Gusic clinched the bronze medals defeating Algerian Ahmed Mohamedi and Egyptian Ahmed Abouelkher, respectively. 

 

Anja Klinar of Slovenia won the gold medal in women's 200 m individual medley on Friday.

In competitions held at the New Olympic Swimming Pool in Mersin, Klinar clocked 2.14.40 to claim the gold medal in women's 200 m individual medley.

Ranking after Klinar, Stefania Pirozzi of Italia won the silver in 2.16.12 while Carlotta Toni of Italia won the bronze medal finishing in 2.16.24.

Turkish swimmer Gizem Bozkurt finished in 2.17.08 and placed fourth. 

- Serbian swimmer won in 400 m men's freestyle 

Velimir Stjepanovic of Serbia clocked 3.48.33 and won the gold medal in 400 m men's freestyle.

Oussama Mellouli of Turkey won the silver with 3.48.67 while Simon Guerin of France won the bronze medal.

- Italian swimmer won in 400 m women's freestyle

Martina De Memme of Italia clocked 4.09.18 and won the gold medal in 400 m women's freestyle.

Anja Klinar of Slovenia won the silver in 4.11.61 while Claudia Dasca Romeu of Spain won the bronze medal.

 

 France won the gold medal in women's 4x100 m freestyle relay while Italia was disqualified and Turkey won the bronze medal on Friday.

In competitions held at the New Olympic Swimming Pool in the southern city of Mersin, the French team with Anna Santamans, Lauriane Haag, Mathilde Cini and Beryl Gastaldello clocked 3.42.37 to claim the gold medal in women's 4x100 m freestyle relay.

Ranking after France, Greece with Stavroula Karantakou, Kristel Vourna, Theodora Giareni and Theodora Drakou won the silver in 3.46.44.

Turkey with Kubra Esra Kacma, Halime Zulal Zeren, Gizem Bozkurt and Burcu Dolunay finished in the fourth place, Italian team disqualified and Turkey won the bronze medal in 3.47.35.

 

Competing in women's 52 kg, Spanish Laura Gomez Ropinon toppled her Slovenian rival Petra Nareks, and won the gold medal, while Nareks won the silver medal.

Arca defeated her Italian rival Elena Moretti, and won the bronze medal.

French athlete Delphine Delsalle defeated Algerian Djazia Haddad and won the other bronze medal.

- 57 kg

In women's 57 kg, Slovenia's Vlora Bedeti won the gold medal toppling her Italian rival Martina Lo Giudice.

Turkish judoist Tugba Zehir was defeated by French athlete Shirley Elliot, who won the bronze medal.

The other 57 kg bronze medal was won by Moroccon judoist Fatima Zahra Ait Ali, who defeated her Greek rival Sofia Tsolani. 

 

Bunyamin Sezer of Turkey won Turkey's first medals, a gold and a silver medal in weight-lifting in men's 62 kg on Friday. 

Sezer snatched 135 kg and won gold medal and cleaned and jerked 151 kg and won silver medal.

Egypt's Ahmad Saad won silver and France's Kevin Caesemaeker won bronze medal in snatch whereas Saad received gold and Caesemaeker bronze in clean and jerk in men's 62 kg. 

Bunyamin Sezer, who became the first Turkish sportsperson to win a gold medal at the 17th Mediterranean Games, said, "I came here for two gold medals. I must have had one gold and one silver in my destiny. I cannot put my feelings into words. I've done all I could. The audience supported me extensively. I am grateful to all for their support."
