A total of 532 undocumented migrants were held across Turkey on Friday, according to security sources.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said security forces stopped a vehicle in Adasarhanli village in Edirne province and detained 13 Syrian and Iraqi nationals.

In the same village, security forces detained 17 migrants of Syrian, Afghan, Iraqi and Iranian nationality.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the incidents and were later remanded in custody by a court on migrant smuggling charges.

In Erzurum province, 502 migrants of Afghan and Pakistani nationality were caught following an intelligence tipoff, according to a statement by the provincial governor’s office.

Security forces caught 12 migrants in a taxi and 292 migrants in the trailer of a truck in Horasan district, 78 migrants in a truck in Pasinler district and 120 others in Koprukoy district.

Turkey has been a main route for refugees trying to cross into Europe, especially since the beginning of the Syrian civil war.
