At least 732 historical artifacts were seized in western Turkey on Wednesday.
In a statement, the provincial Gendarmerie Command said that acting on a tip-off that the artifacts would be smuggled, a light commercial vehicle carrying historical artifacts was stopped in the Torbali district of Izmir province.
At least 721 coins, 11 earrings, necklaces, and arrowheads which are considered to belong to the Ottoman and Byzantine periods were found in the vehicle.
The artifacts were delivered to the provincial museum directorate and two suspects were arrested for smuggling.
