Anadolu Agency launched its Macedonian service and also opened an office in the Macedonian capital Skopje on Monday.
The Macedonian service is now Anadolu Agency’s 10th broadcasting language, which will operate within the framework of its centennial vision to rank among the world's five most influential news agencies by 2020.
Anadolu Agency opened its office in Skopje at a ceremony, which was attended by Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan, AA’s Chairman of the Board and Director General Senol Kazanci and AA’s Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Director General Metin Mutanoglu.
“Anadolu Agency will not only make our voice be heard here but it will also make Macedonia’s voice be heard in the world,” Akdogan said.
"As the first international news agency to broadcast in Macedonian, AA will be the voice of Macedonia," Kazanci said.
"It is for sure that AA's and TRT's services in Macedonia will reinforce our relationship of friendship and brotherhood, and give the necessary messages to the entire world," Turkey's Skopje Ambassador Omur Solendil said.
Several representatives from Skopje's major media outlets as well as Turkish and Macedonian bureaucrats also attended the ceremony.
Along with the Macedonian language, AA broadcasts in Turkish, English, Arabic, BHS (Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian), Russian, Kurdish-Sorani, French, Albanian and Persian.
The Skopje office will be the broadcasting center of Macedonian and Albanian services.
The Albanian-Macedonian news desk will cover developments in the region and the world with photos and videos to the Macedonian broadcast media.
Anadolu Agency aims to bring a breath of fresh air to the Macedonian media landscape with its principles of being “reliable, impartial, ethical and fast”.
It is among the agency’s goals to broadcast news in 11 languages by 2020, the year of its centennial anniversary.
