ERBIL, Iraq
The father of a Turkish worker held along with three others in northern Iraq on suspicion of being connected to Daesh has called on Turkish authorities to help release them.
The four were detained in the Iraqi northern Kurdish region in March and early April by Kurdish security forces on suspicion of being connected to the terror organization.
Ramazan Kav, also a worker in Erbil and the father of one detainee, told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday that Yasin Abur, 23, was detained at Erbil International Airport on March 26, after security forces suspected him of being connected to Daesh "because of his clothes and long beard".
Kav said that, one week later, security forces swooped on the workers’ site at night and detained his son Murat Kav, 26, relative Adem Kav, 30, and Yasar Atmaca, 22.
Kav said he had visited his son in jail in Erbil and was allowed to talk to him for three minutes.
“I asked my son if he was tortured, but he did not answer because the guard standing nearby knew the Turkish language,” Kav said.
According to Kav, his son and the two other workers were detained because they are Facebook friends of the first suspect Abur.
Kav called on the Turkish authorities to save the detainees, saying they have no connections with Daesh and came to Erbil to earn a living.
