ANKARA
More than half of the 35 million tourists visiting Turkey in 2013 came from eight countries, with Germany and Russia taking the lead in tourist numbers, according to Turkish ministry figures.
According to figures derived from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 54 percent of tourists visiting Turkey in 2013 came from Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, Georgia, Bulgaria, Netherlands, Iran and France.
Turkey's claimed the sixth spot on the global list after France, USA, China, Spain and Italy. Nearly half of the tourists visit in the June-September season with the main attraction being Turkey's extensive beaches. The summer intake of visitors peaked in the month of August with 4 million 945 thousands tourists.
