WASHINGTON (AA) – US Secretary of State John Kerry congratulated the Turkish people on the ninetieth anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic Monday.
“On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I offer my warmest wishes to the people of Turkey as you celebrate 90 years since the founding of the Republic of Turkey on October 29,” said Kerry in a statement released to the press.
He added, “I wish Turkey and its citizens a happy holiday as you celebrate this special anniversary. The United States looks forward to deepening our cooperation as you carry forward Ataturk’s vision of a strong, free, and democratic Turkey.”
The US Secretary of State emphasized the strong bond between Ankara and Washington saying, “Our nations share a long history of friendship and cooperation based on common interests and values. As close NATO Allies for over 60 years, we have worked together to promote peace and prosperity around the world. The United States values our close working relationship with Turkey on a range of critical global challenges, including Syria, countering terrorism, and economic cooperation.”
Republic Day is celebrated throughout Turkey each year. It commemorates the proclamation of the Turkish Republic in 1923.
Putin, Aliyev congratulate Turkey on Republic Day
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have expressed their best wishes to Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the 90th anniversary of Turkey's Republic Day.
In the statement issued by the Kremlin's Press Center on Tuesday, Putin stressed that Turkey's position in the global arena would strengthen through the economic, social, intellectual, technological and cultural successes it has achieved.
“Putin underlined the importance of Turkish-Russian relations along friendship and partnership and large-scale joint projects and bilateral cooperation in the trade-economic, energy and infrastructure fields,” the statement said.
It added Putin's certainty that cooperation between Turkey and Russia would continue to increase for the solution of regional and global problems and the securing of international stability.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan's presidency addressed the letters President Alivey had sent to Gul and Erdogan regarding Republic Day.
In his letter to Gul, Aliyev expressed that the Azerbaijani people shared in the pride and happiness of the Turkish people.
“I believe that Azerbaijani-Turkish relations will provide great services for the well-fare of our people and the beautification of our countries,” it read.
Aliyev also congratulated Erdogan and the Turkish people on behalf of the Azerbaijani people.
“The Azerbaijani-Turkish friendship, brotherhood and partnership stemming from our peoples' sharing of common values form the foundation of our relations,” the letter noted.
