A soldier was martyred in an attack by PKK terrorists in the southeastern Mardin province’s Nusaybin district, the Turkish military said early Friday.
In a statement on its website, the Turkish General Staff said that during ongoing military operations against PKK terrorists, a soldier was severely wounded and later succumbed to his wounds in hospital, at 8.50 p.m. local time (GMT 5:50 p.m.).
"We offer our deep condolences to our martyr's family, members of the Turkish Armed Forces, and the great Turkish nation," the statement said.
The PKK – also seen as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, over 350 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
