SIRNAK, Turkey
A police officer was martyred in an operation against the terrorist PKK group in southeastern Turkey on Tuesday, security officials said.
The police officer was wounded during the security operation in Cizre town of the southeastern province of Sirnak and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The PKK -- considered a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its three-decade armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July.
Since Dec. 15, when security forces stepped up operations against the PKK in southeastern towns and cities, 305 terrorists have been killed, the military said.
Most of the casualties were recorded in Cizre and Sur as well as Silopi and in Sirnak province.
