Police seize 876 kg of heroin in Turkey
Operations conducted in Istanbul, Hakkari, Van provinces, says interior minister
ANKARA
Turkish police seized 876 kilograms (1,931 pounds) of heroin in separate operations, the country's interior minister announced on Friday.
Some 405 kilograms (892 pounds) were seized in anti-narcotic operations in the eastern Van and southeastern Hakkari provinces, Suleyman Soylu said on Twitter, posting photos of the contraband seized.
Two suspects were also arrested, Soylu said, and congratulated the officials for the successful operations.
Meanwhile, police in Baskale district of the eastern Van province seized over 383 kilograms (844 pounds) of heroin filled in 753 packages. Five suspects were also rounded up.
Separately, the Istanbul police found over 88 kilograms (39 pounds) of heroin in a truck on the North Marmara Highway, and one suspect was held.
