MOSCOW
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, said "nobody wants peace in Syria but Russia and China", on Wednesday.
Assessing 2012 foreign policy issues at a press conference in Moscow, Lavrov said "nobody, except Russia and China wants peace in Syria". He said "bloodshed to stop" was their priority in Syria and added that they were in touch with both the administration and the opposition.
He said western countries being in touch with the opposition only, raise the tension in the country adding that western countries fuel violence by supporting the opposition while Russia and China had been doing their best for the problem to be solved peacefully.
Lavrov said Russia's embassy in Damascus was still operating full capacity but they were also ready for an emergency.
On Iran, he said isolating Iran in the region and a possible war against Iran would be a huge mistake.
He said Iran was one of the main elements in the region and it was impossible to solve the problems in the region, such as Afghanistan and Syria issue, without Iran.
