Six suspects accused of having links with terrorist group Daesh have been remanded in custody at an Istanbul court on Monday.
On Friday, Turkish Anti-Terror Branch Directorate police teams arrested six suspects on intelligence that a member of Daesh was in Istanbul from Syria to carry out ‘spectacular’ attacks in the city.
The suspects, who were detained at a luxury villa in Istanbul’s coastal district of Silivri, were sent to a local court after their interrogation.
Turkish police said that they were still investigating an allegation that one detainee was a close associate of the Daesh militant Mohammed Emwazi – known as ‘Jihadi John’ – who the U.S. claimed was killed in an air strike last week.
Since July, security forces in Turkey have been conducting anti-terrorist operations across the country after a Daesh suicide bombing killed dozens of people in Suruc, Sanliurfa province on July 20.
Another terrorist attack killed more than 100 people in Ankara on Oct. 10.
