ISTANBUL (AA) - Taksim Square was quiet on Wednesday morning after a night of sporadic clashes between protesters and security forces.
Rainy weather in early morning contributed to the tranquility in the square, as protesters held on to their raincoats and police officers rested in buses in front of Ataturk Cultural Center. A group of police officers were seen playing football in the area.
The police finished clearing torched vehicles and barricades erected by protesters, with only one block remaining in Mete Street. Three crowd control vehicles are stationed in its entrance.
Meanwhile, a police officer was injured by a falling piece of wood from atop a nearby container. He received first treatment at the infirmary protesters set up in the square.
