A third Turkish soldier was martyred Thursday after being wounded in a counter-terrorism operation in southeast Turkey, the military said.
In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said three soldiers were severely injured in clashes with PKK terrorists in Sur, a district of Diyabakir, the southeast’s largest city, on Wednesday. Two died the same day while the other soldier succumbed to his wounds later.
A PKK terrorist was killed during the operation.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state last July. Since then, more than 260 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed.
