ANKARA
Turkey's most senior military commander visited the temporary burial place of Suleyman Shah and Saygi Outpost in the Syrian village of Ashme Thursday.
Chief of the General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel was with Turkish land forces commander, Gen. Hulusi Akar, and commander of the Turkish Air Forces, Gen. Ali Ozturk, during his visit.
On Feb. 22, Turkey made a two-pronged operation and brought the remains of Suleyman Shah and sacred relics to Ashme, located 200 meters south of the Turkish-Syrian border, from the original exclave in Syria, some 37 kilometers away from the border, to Turkey.
Suleyman Shah was the grandfather of Osman I, the founder of the Ottoman Empire.
