SIIRT, Turkey
Six more policemen were sent to court late on Thursday, out of 11 policemen who were taken into custody as part of the latest police operation against the "parallel state," authorities said.
The "parallel state" designates an alleged group of Turkish bureaucrats and senior officials embedded in the country's institutions, including the judiciary and the police, which is reportedly trying to undermine the Turkish government.
Earlier in the day, five of the 11 detained policemen were referred to the court after a health examination at hospital and are still under questioning.
A public prosecutor in the eastern province of Siirt had ordered Wednesday the detention of the 11 police officers. The operation was carried out in Siirt, Izmir, Balikesir, Elazig, Mersin and Sakarya provinces.
The suspects were charged with establishing an illegal organization to commit crimes, recording non-public conversation between people, violation of privacy, fabrication of crimes and forgery of documents.
