ANKARA

Turkish National Education Ministry (MEB) has abolished school uniform requirement.
The cabinet decision, which regulates the procedures and the bases of the new dress code in public and private schools of MEB, was published in the Official Gazette on Tuesday.
The students will be able to dress in everyday attire, but the ministry put a new set of rules in the dress code policy that will limit the students' freedom in selecting their outfits. Students will be forbidden to wear tights, shorts, sleeveless tops, mini skirts, transparent and thorn outfits, accessories and outfits depicting political messages, make-up, beard, mustache and dyed hair.
Girls will be able to put on a headscarf in the elective Quran classes upon their will.
In the private schools, if more than 60 percent of the parents accord on students wearing uniforms, that particular school administration will decide on a uniform.
Student will be allowed to wear their current uniforms in the 2013-2014 education year.
