KILIS, Turkey (AA) - Turkey fired artillery rounds on YPG positions in Syria’s Azaz district located in the northern countryside of Aleppo for the eighth consecutive day.

PYD is the Syrian affiliate of the terrorist PKK organization, which has targeted security forces as well as civilians in Turkey since 1984.

Friday's artillery fire began 7 p.m. local time (1900GMT), the sound of which reverberated in Kilis province, Anadolu Agency's correspondents on the Turkish-Syrian border reported.

Since Feb. 12, Turkish military has been shelling PYD and PKK positions in northern Syria intermittently in retaliation to artillery fire from PYD forces based around Azaz.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu dubbed YPG -- the armed wing of the PYD group -- as "a pawn of the Syrian regime" over Ankara attack that killed 28 people on Wednesday.
