ANKARA
The name of the airport for the Eskisehir province has changed its name.
"Eskisehir Anadolu Airport," located just outside Eskisehir city center, has been changed to "Hasan Polatkan Airport."
The renaming was published Thursday in Official Gazette.
Hasan Polatkan was born in 1915 in Eskisehir province and studied political science at Istanbul University.
He entered politics and was elected in 1946 as general election deputy of Eskisehir for the Democratic Party. He then served as Minister of Labor and Finance.
Hasan Polatkan was executed following the 1960 coup..
Turkey has witnessed major military coups on May 27, 1960 and September 12, 1980 as well as several coup attempts. Former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes was executed along with his Foreign Minister Fatin Rustu Zorlu and Finance Minister Hasan Polatkan following the May 27, 1960 military coup.
