Turkey's state-run aid agency Wednesday delivered food packages and cleaning supplies to 400 families in Mauritania to help tackle the coronavirus outbreak.

Turkey's Ambassador to Mauritania Cem Kahyaoglu and some local officials were in attendance of the ceremony for the handover of aid by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the agency said in a written statement.

Kahyaoglu said the aid demonstrates “the brotherhood between the people of Turkey and Mauritania, as well as the strength of intimate relations both between states and communities.”

The pandemic has killed more than 380,500 people worldwide, with total infections reaching nearly 6.4 million, while more than 2.74 million people have recovered from the disease, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
