ANKARA
Twenty people were detained Saturday in the south-central Kilis province for allegedly trying to cross illegally into Syria to join Daesh, Turkish military said Sunday.
According to the Turkish General Staff’s statement, the suspects were travelling in a minibus towards Turkey’s border with Syria when they were stopped in Kilis province.
An investigation into the incident has been launched, the statement added.
Thousands of foreign fighters from all over the world are believed to have joined terrorist organizations, including Daesh, in Syria and Iraq.
