ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Tuesday down 2.16 percent to close at 110,712.70 points with a trade volume of 7.8 billion Turkish liras ($1.9 billion). 

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 2,443.38 points from Monday's close of 113,156.08 points, while it opened Tuesday at 113,475.58 points.

During trading hours, benchmark index hovered between 110,007.82 points and 113,524.60 points while nine stocks on the index were up, 89 were down and two were flat compared with the previous close.

The banking and holding sector indices went down by 3.40 and 1.88 percent, respectively. On a daily basis, the BIST leasing factoring index performed the best -- up 6.92 percent -- while the textile and leather sector index saw the largest decline, losing 5.20 percent

Shares of event and congress organizer Flap Kongre Toplanti Hizmetleri (FLAP) were the top gainer with a 13.07 percent hike, while conglomerate Dogan Holding (DOHOL) suffered the most for a third business day, falling 11.76 percent.

The BIST 100's most-traded listed companies were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti, state lender Halkbank, polyester producer Sasa, followed by gold miner Koza Altin.

The USD/TRY exchange rate stood at 4.1340 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) Tuesday, compared with its previous close of 4.0620. 

The euro/lira exchange rate climbed to 5.1130 by market close versus 4.0040 at Monday's close, and one British pound traded for 5.8700 Turkish liras while the GBP/TRY rate was 5.7550 at the previous close. 

The BIST Gold Exchange index rose by 0.68 percent at daily close. In the Precious Metals and Diamond Markets of Borsa Istanbul, one ounce of gold traded for $1,339.00 as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) Tuesday, while it was $1,330.00 at the previous close.

As of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT), the price of Brent oil stood at $70.36 per barrel, hovering between $68.47 and $70.48 during the day.
